St. Vincent de Paul of Greater Temple, Inc. is a registered non-profit corporation that is dedicated to assisting the needy in many different ways by providing assistance to needy men, women and families, regardless of race, creed, country of origin or age. Assistance takes the form of food, clothing, financial aid, and referral services.
The St. Vincent facility contains a store which provides a source of affordable clothing, appliances, furniture and other items, as well as office space, storage buildings and a classroom accommodating 25-30 people.
St. Vincent de Paul carries out its mission by the sale of donated merchandise; by private and church-related donations; and by grants from the United Way and private foundations. A paid staff of four is supplemented by volunteers, who do everything from sorting and displaying clothes to packing and distributing bags of groceries.
Volunteer opportunities include sorting and displaying clothing, furniture and appliances; unloading food items and packing grocery bags; aiding in food distribution to clients; sweeping, mopping, maintenance and minor repairs to the facilities.
Training is learned by on-the-job experience and usually one session is sufficient.
